UK Labour chair defends party's election campaign in Wales
Getty ImagesUK Labour chair Anna Turley has defended the party's Welsh election campaign, but admitted it faces a difficult time after 27 years in power.
Recent opinion polls have indicated Labour is trailing in third place, behind Plaid Cymru and Reform.
Some suggest First Minister Eluned Morgan could lose her seat, in addition to the party losing control of the Welsh government.
Asked about Labour's woes, Turley told BBC Wales: "I think it's really difficult when we've been in power in Wales for a long time, working really hard to look after the people of Wales, fighting against austerity, years of Tory [UK] governance that's really hit the people of Wales and many communities really, really hard."
"Welsh Labour have battled tooth and nail to support people through that.
"And we really want to look to the future now, because we've got a Labour government that believes in Wales, that is investing in Wales, with Labour in power in Wales and in Westminster we can really start to deliver for the people of Wales."
Turley added that she was "really proud" of the campaign Labour is running in Wales, as well as the party's record in government on things like child poverty and jobs.
She was speaking to the BBC as part of a series of interviews with UK party leaders and key figures ahead of the Senedd election on 7 May.
