Tom Miles said there would be plenty of sea swims for Luna along the route

A man and his dog are walking 300 miles (482km) to raise money for a disaster relief charity.

Tom Miles, 49, and his two-year old labrador-collie cross, Luna, are walking the Cornish coastline for Shelterbox and hope to reach Plymouth in under two weeks. The pair from Lostwithiel started the journey in Bude and will be covering between 20 to 25 miles (32 to 40km) a day.

Miles, who has volunteered with the Cornwall-based charity, said he wanted to "shine a light on the amazing work they do".

"Luna is young and fit so she's loving it and swims at every beach," Miles said. "It's crazy hilly, so the days are long, but there will be plenty of camping, wagging tails, and sea swims along the way."

The charity's community engagement officer said Luna would make a difference to the "epic fundraising challenge"

ShelterBox was founded in 2000 by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard to provide emergency shelter to families who have been affected by disaster or conflict.

John Stanbury, community engagement officer for the charity, said Miles was "an extraordinary ambassador".

"I'm so glad Tom knows the difference Luna will make with this epic fundraising challenge. We are so proud of them both," he said.
