Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was found with a serious injury to his head.

The victim, in his 30s, was discovered on Hillcrest Street in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, after police were called, at 16:20 BST on Sunday, to carry out a welfare check on Bucknall New Road - about a five-minute walk away.

He was taken to hospital where he remained in a serious but stable condition, Staffordshire Police confirmed.

Police then went to a home on Wellington Street after reports that the attack had taken place there. Two men, aged 52 and 53, both from Stoke-on-Trent, were then arrested.
