Man rescued after being found unresponsive in mud

A man in his 80s has been rescued from the mud at a popular waterside beauty spot in Liverpool.

He was found unresponsive at Otterspool Promenade by emergency services at about 09:00 BST on Friday, after reports that he was in difficulty.

Coastguard and crews were deployed to lift him out of the mud using a tripod system and stretcher.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics, but his condition is not known at this stage.
