Unite workers at Amcor in Cramlington are set to strike every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until April next year

Workers at a factory which makes packaging for medicines have escalated their strike action after turning down a pay offer.

Unite members at Amcor's plant in Cramlington, Northumberland, had been walking out every Monday since 18 May, but from 8 June it will be expanded to include Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The union said the pay deal did not go far enough to address years of low pay and the cost-of-living crisis.

An Amcor spokesperson previously said they were committed to engaging in "constructive dialogue with trade union representatives to seek a positive solution".

The Cramlington factory, which is owned by Swiss firm Amcor Plc, prints pharmaceutical packaging for companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca and AbbVie.

Unite regional officer Craig Patterson said workers were "left with no choice but to escalate strike action".

"Amcor could end this action, which risks product delays and also will harm relationships with its clients, but that relies on the company changing tack and returning to negotiations with an improved pay offer," he said.

The action is due to go on until 7 April 2027.
