People are advised to top up their protection against Covid-19, as viruses change and protection fades over time

Those most at risk of serious illness from Covid-19 are being urged to come forward for a vaccination this spring.

NHS Kent and Medway is asking vulnerable residents to make use of the booking system which opens from Tuesday, with appointments available from 13 April.

Among those eligible are adults aged 75 years and over, elderly care home residents and people aged six months and over who have a weakened immune system.

It also reminded everyone who has previously had the jab that it was "important to top up their protection against Covid-19, as viruses change and protection fades over time".

Anyone who qualifies for vaccination will receive an invitation from the NHS.

Appointments can be booked online, via the NHS App or by calling 119 for free.

The spring vaccination programme will end on 30 June 2026.

A spokesperson said: "Getting vaccinated will help to reduce the risk of getting severe symptoms and aid quicker recovery.

"So it is important that you come forward for the vaccine this spring if you are eligible."

Dr Kate Langford, NHS Kent and Medway's chief medical and outcomes officer, added: "Vaccines are extremely safe and offer those at a higher risk the best protection against serious illness."
