Teenager who died in crash was 'one of a kind'

A teenage boy has died following a two-vehicle crash in Coalisland on Thursday.

The collision, which involved a scrambler and Scania lorry, happened in the Derryloughan Road area at about 20:15 BST.

Connor Magee Campbell, 16, from Clonoe, who was on the scrambler, was taken to hospital but later died as a result of his injuries, according to police.

In a statement, the Ógras Centre in Coalisland said that the teenager was "truly one of a kind", adding that "in his short years, Connor made an impact that many people could only dream of making in a lifetime".

"Everyone who knew him will remember the sparkle in his eye, the cheeky smile on his face and all the wee ticks that made him stand out from the crowd."

SDLP councillor Malachy Quinn said the local community was "shocked and deeply saddened" by his death.

"The loss of a young man with his whole life ahead of him is a devastating tragedy, and it is impossible to understand the heartbreak being experienced by his family and friends," he said.

"I know the local community will stand together and offer whatever support and comfort it can to Connor's family in the days and weeks ahead."

Sinn Féin Cllr, Eimear Carney, said the "entire community is heartbroken at the loss of such a young boy in such tragic circumstances".

"Connor was a wonderful young lad who was deeply loved by his family and had a wide circle of friends.

"His presence touched the lives of so many in the community and his lovely smile and good nature will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him."

St Joseph's College, Coalisland, said Connor was due to receive his GCSE results and described him as "a much-loved member of our school community".

They added that "his loss is deeply felt by students, staff and all who knew him".

Cookstown Boxing Club said that "all at the club are deeply saddened" following his death.

They said that Connor was a "very talented young man winning Mid Ulster and Ulster Championships and representing the club in the Irish National Championships in Dublin", adding that he "was a joy to coach".

Frank Gervin Clonoe Amateur Boxing Club said Connor would be "fondly remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him through our club and beyond".

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
