The Jersey Consumer Council said being able to compare local prices could make a "meaningful difference"

People in Jersey will be able to compare updated fuel prices more often on a website.

The Jersey Consumer Council said forecourt fuel surveys were now taking place twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

It added that the work did not favour any particular supplier and did not require consumers to commit to a purchase. It also said its value was in "empowering consumers with information, allowing them to engage with the market on a more equal footing."

The council said due to the "ongoing instability in the Middle East continuing to affect global energy markets, many islanders are understandably concerned about rising fuel and heating oil costs".

It said fuel prices in Jersey were influenced by a range of international factors, including oil production levels, shipping costs and geopolitical tensions.

It added that, while households could not control those factors, being able to compare local prices "can make a meaningful difference" when deciding when and where to buy fuel.
