If approved, the homes would be built in Shifnal, Shropshire

Plans to build up to 200 homes on agricultural land in Shifnal have been submitted by a developer.

Catesby Estates wants outline planning permission to demolish New Park Farm, off Lamledge Lane and construct housing.

The proposals also include a central green corridor and children's play area, a new footpath and cycling links.

The land, which lies between the A464 and the Shrewsbury-to-Wolverhampton railway line, is currently used as farmland, woodland and caravan storage.

The site is made up of 12.76 hectares (32 acres) of predominantly agricultural pasture land as well as 1.37 hectares (3.4 acres)of mature woodland known as Revells Rough.

The planning statement said the land sat in a "sustainable location" within walking distance of shops and public transport, and that up to 40 of the homes would be classed as affordable housing.

The developer said the construction phase could support about 165 jobs and generate £28.5m in private capital investment.

Once occupied, the homes would add to local spending and council tax revenue, the statement claimed.

The application will be examined by Shropshire Council, including a formal public consultation period.

If outline permission is granted, detailed designs for layout, appearance and landscaping would be submitted at a later stage.
