How will next phase of major roadworks affect you?

The next phase of roadworks that are part of the biggest upgrade of a water network in 150 years will begin next week.

Thames Water is closing Barkham Road between the Bearwood Road roundabout and the Barkham Street roundabout from next Monday until 13 November.

It is the latest phase of major mains replacement work in Arborfield, with closures and diversions on Barkham Road continuing in phases until the end of June 2027.

The firm is installing 1.6 miles (2.6km) of new trunk water mains.

It said the work would ensure the community had modern infrastructure, to reduce the chances of bursts and leaks, as well as cater for housing growth in the area.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: "We appreciate the impact of this project and would like to reassure people that we are continuing to look for further ways to minimise disruption as much as we can.

"We would like to thank residents, businesses and motorists for their patience whilst we carry out this major upgrade for Barkham."

It said during the work in Bearwood Road it was able to accommodate requests from local businesses and residents, including changing a full road closure to one keeping a single lane open, controlled by traffic lights while work was done on that section.

It has also recently re-opened Bearwood Road from Highlands Avenue down to The Lilacs.
