Skating session to mark park's official opening

The facility in Pasture Road, Stapleford, is the culmination of a campaign to get a new site since the closure of the town's old skate park in Hickings Lane in 2022.
The £236,000 park, which has been used since December, has been funded by a £100,000 grant from the FCC Community Action Fund alongside the Stapleford Towns Fund and a crowdfunding appeal which was match-funded by Sport England.
The official opening on Saturday will see free skateboarding coaching sessions and workshops, along with informal competitions for female skaters and open 'jams'.
Broxtowe Borough CouncilThe opening event will also signal the start of a programme of free coached skateboarding sessions running through the summer.
It is open to skateboarders, quad and inline roller-skaters and BMXers, with helmets and boards provided for some sessions.
A spokesperson for Broxtowe Borough Council said: "The final design followed more than two years of extensive consultation, including four in-person events, two online surveys and several user group meetings between the team at developer Canvas and local BMXers, skateboarders and inline and quad roller-skaters, altogether engaging more than 300 people."
