Eight vehicles were either damaged or completely destroyed in a suspected arson attack on a car wash.

Police officers and firefighters were sent to Epping Green Car Wash and Valeting, on Epping Road, in Epping Green, Essex, at 02:56 BST on Saturday.

Upon arrival, the Essex Fire and Rescue Service said it found "multiple vehicles alight" before fire crews managed to extinguish them by just before 04:00.

Essex Police said no-one was injured but that it had launched an investigation into what it said was a "deliberate fire".

"At this stage, we believe eight cars have sustained fire damage. No arrests have been made and our investigation is progressing," a spokesperson said.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us."

The fire melted large parts of the vehicles and caused their windows and windscreens to shatter

Photos seen by the BBC show multiple burnt-out cars on an area of charred ground.

The car wash was opened three months ago by Cristina Zazu who told the BBC she did not know why somebody would want to set fire to her business.

"I'm very embarrassed and it is not good for me or for my customer and I don't know what made people do this, I don't understand," she said.

"I am very sad."
