Overnight maintenance work will be carried out after Easter

Drivers have been warned to expect delays due to planned overnight motorway closures.

From Tuesday until 17 September, maintenance work will be carried out to safety barriers on the M5 between junction seven and junction nine, near Worcester.

To allow the work to be carried out, lane closures will be in place from 20:00 BST until 06:00 on weekdays.

National Highways has advised that most of the work will be carried out under lane closures, but there will be times when the exit and entry slips roads will also need to be closed.

Full overnight closures will be in place on the southbound carriageway between junctions eight and nine, from 28 April to 29 April with diversions to junction 11 planned.

The northbound carriageway between junctions nine and eight will be fully closed overnight from 30 April until 1 May, and traffic will be diverted from the junction 11 exit slip to rejoin at junction eight.

From 5 May to 7 May, the M5 southbound between junctions seven and eight will also be fully closed overnight.

A number of slip road closures are expected throughout August and September.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "We'd like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption to those living close to the work.

"We'll make every effort to carefully manage noise levels and additional lighting to minimise the impact whilst working along the route."
