A former West Yorkshire Police detective has gone on trial accused of sexually assaulting a woman with a sex toy.

Claudine Binns, 51, from Holmfirth appeared at Bradford Crown Court on Monday charged with assault by penetration and attempted assault by penetration.

The alleged offences are said to have taken been committed against the same complainant over two days in March 2022.

Binns, who denies the charges, worked as a detective inspector in the Bradford area before retiring from the force.

Prosecutor Philip Standfast told the jury the alleged assault had taken place on 6 March 2022 at Binn's home.

He said the victim had made it clear the previous day that she did not want Binns to use the sex toy on her but that Binns had ignored her.

He told the court the victim did not report the incident to police until May of the same year.

In a police interview she said she had been in pain for two to three days after the assault.

She told officers: "I got the impression she [Binns] felt very powerful and dominant. She tried to persuade me to use [the toy]. She said 'how do you know you don't like something until you try it?'."

The court heard Binns was arrested on 18 May 2022 and gave a prepared statement to police denying all allegations.

She went on to claim the complainant had made the accusation out of financial motivation.

The trial continues.
