Pinstone Street in Sheffield will be shut between Charles Street and Cross Burgess Street

Sections of two roads in Sheffield city centre will be closed to traffic from Tuesday as part of a regeneration works in the area.

Pinstone Street will be shut between Charles Street and Cross Burgess Street, while Charles Street will close from Arundel Gate to Union Street, with both expected to reopen on 1 September.

The work is part of Sheffield City Council's project to revamp areas of the city centre, which has already seen parts of Surrey Street and Pinstone Street pedestrianised.

Diversions will be in place during the closures, a council spokesperson said.

The work would see pavements and carriageways replaced on both roads to make them more accessible for everyone, a council spokesperson said.

A section of road between Furnival Gate and Charles Street would reopen now that work in that area has been completed, they added.

Vehicles will still be able to access Norfolk Street and St Paul's Place from Charles Street for loading.

Access to the Q-Park and loading bays in Charles Street will remain open.

The Connecting Sheffield scheme has been funded by part of a £21m pot from the Department for Transport.

The project also includes planned improvements to public transport around Townhead Street and Leopold Street, linking these areas to a walking and cycle network at West Bar, Fargate and Castle Street.
