Woman driving Land Rover injured in crash

A woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after her vehicle was involved in a collision near Ripon earlier.

North Yorkshire Police said the woman's black Land Rover Defender was involved in a crash with a blue and white DAF lorry at 08:37 BST on the A61 at its junction with Smith Lane, east of Hutton Bank.

Officers said the woman was believed to be in her 30s and from the County Durham area and described her injuries as life-threatening. The HGV driver was a man in his 60s from the Lincolnshire area.

The road was closed for a number of hours following the incident but has since reopened.

A force spokesperson said: "We are appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or moments leading up to it, including either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision."
