Repair work is underway after a pedestrian crossing in Lincoln was damaged by a vehicle.

Lincolnshire County Council said the crash on Tritton Road had "left the equipment unsafe".

A temporary crossing has been put in place while work to reinstate the traffic lights is carried out.

Anthony Gent, principle engineer for traffic signals at the council, said it would "take a few days to replace".

Gent said the work on the crossing would bring it in line with technology used elsewhere in Lincolnshire, and be more "economical and reliable".

"A new steel socket is being installed. This is the current standard used across the county and will make any future repairs quicker and less disruptive," he said.

"These works had originally been planned for later in the year but because the equipment was already prepared for that job, and the collision created an immediate safety issue, the decision was taken to bring the work forward."

Work is expected to be finished by 22 May, with the new crossing fully operational seven days later, the council said.
