Rail travel disrupted after damaged electric wires

Damage to overhead electric wires has caused "significant disruption" to rail services from London St Pancras station to Bedford.

Thameslink said it happened on Thursday at about 17:00 BST but engineers worked through the night to resolve the problem and the lines have now reopened.

It said trains running from the capital through Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire "may be cancelled, severely delayed or revised".

East Midlands Railway, that run into Northamptonshire, said it was due to "overhead line equipment damage between London St Pancras and Luton Airport Parkway" and its services were also impacted.

Major disruption is expected to Intercity and Connect routes until 16:00, due to the displacement of trains, it added.

Thameslink apologised to those affected and "for the inconvenience and uncertainty this is causing".
