Four London Overground bridges to be replaced

Four bridges which carry London Overground trains in east London are due to be replaced.

There will be some weekend closures as work is done on the 130-year-old bridges in Forest Gate on the Suffragette line between Leytonstone High Road and Woodgrange Park stations.

The Talbot Road and Stracey Road works will begin on 1 September followed by Strode Road and Latimer Road on 28 September. The road and pavement below will be closed throughout the project, Network Rail says.

Joe Kennedy, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said: "We're really sorry for the disruption and we'll work very closely with residents and businesses to keep the impact to a minimum while we get the job done."

He added: "Our project will deliver four brand-new bridges that will serve the surrounding community and rail passengers for several generations."

The first phase of the works will be to extend the support structures at the ends of the existing bridges before demolition of the old bridge decks and installation of the new spans in spring 2027, according to Network Rail.

The project is due to be completed by late summer 2027 and bridges are expected to last until 2150.

There will be public drop-in sessions with the project team at Forest Gate Learning Zone on Thursday 6 August from 10:30 BST until 13:00 and on Wednesday 12 August between 17:00 and 19:00.
