A major search is under way following reports that a teenage boy went missing after getting into a lake at a beauty spot.

Specialist boat units from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are searching Pickmere Lake, between Knutsford and Northwich, after the alarm was raised shortly before 17:00 BST.

Cheshire Police said a helicopter was also assisting the search.

Some residents reported emergency service vehicles finding it difficult to make their way past parked cars - although it is not believed there were major delays.

A spokesperson for the fire service said five fire engines had been deployed along with a rapid response rescue unit, a technical rescue unit and a boat unit.

Specially trained water rescue firefighters are also on the scene.
