Marc Bell was jailed for 14 years after stabbing a man with a broken bottle during a robbery

A robber who stabbed a man in the stomach with a broken glass bottle has been jailed.

Marc Bell carried out the attack when he was confronted by the victim, as he tried to leave a store in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, with a bag full of items he had not paid for on 17 December 2024.

Bell was arrested after fleeing to a nearby restaurant, where he changed his outfit before throwing his clothes into a bush. While he was under arrest, he punched an officer through a custody hatch, Staffordshire Police said.

The 30-year-old, of Burton-upon-Trent, was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

He had admitted wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, robbery and assault by beating of an emergency worker at an earlier hearing.

After Friday's hearing, Det Con Reece Hingley, of Staffordshire Police, said it was a "violent and spontaneous" attack which left the victim with serious injuries.
