A supermarket in a seaside town is closed following the death of a man nearby in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called to Lidl on Seaward Way in Minehead, Somerset, just before 05:00 BST by the ambulance service who were treating a man in his 30s.

The man died at the scene, Avon and Somerset Police said, and his death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

He has not been named publicly, but the force said formal identification has taken place and his next of kin have been informed.

"Our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time and they are being offered support," police said.

The force said the public would see a heightened police presence in the area while enquiries are carried out.

A forensic team has been deployed to the scene, and a cordon has been placed around the supermarket.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact police.
