Death of man found after house fire 'unexplained'
BBCThe body of a man has been found after a house fire in Cheshire.
Police and the fire service were called to the blaze on Welsh Row, Nantwich, shortly before 19:00 BST on Tuesday.
The death of the man, who was in his 60s, was being treated as unexplained and his next of kin have been informed, Cheshire Police said.
The force confirmed a cordon remained in place at the scene while an investigation into the cause of the fire was carried out.
Det Sgt George Booth said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at the current time, and we request for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
"Inquires in relation to the incident remain ongoing and I would ask local residents not to speculate while we establish exactly what has taken place."
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called after smoke was seen billowing from a first-floor window and the roof.
A spokesperson said their crews found the man dead during a search of the home as they worked to put the blaze out.
