Residents have been evacuated from a residential building in east London where a fire has broken out.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) sent 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters to the block of maisonettes on Mount Pleasant Lane, Clapton shortly after receiving reports at 20:00 BST on Tuesday.

A large amount of smoke has been seen in the Hackney area and people living nearby are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Crews from several fire stations, including Stoke Newington, Tottenham and Homerton, are continuing to deal with the incident.

The brigade said a rest centre had been opened nearby for residents affected by the fire, and that it was working with the local authority to support those impacted.

It is not yet known if anyone has been injured in the fire.

LFB has been approached for further comment.
