A man has been arrested after a pedestrian who was believed to have been hit by a car was found injured on the A14 in Suffolk.

Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to reports of a man in his 60s lying injured in the road near the Dock Spur roundabout in Felixstowe at 04:30 BST on Saturday.

Suffolk Police said the victim, who was taken to hospital, was thought to have been struck by a vehicle which left the scene.

Two hours later, officers arrested a man aged in his 30s on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning before being released on police bail until 11 June. A vehicle was also seized by police.

Following the incident, the A14 was closed in both directions for nearly 12 hours, not reopening until 14:20.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance."
