Drivers have been warned of disruption in a Staffordshire village as work begins on a new zebra crossing.

The £100,000 project, which will include Belisha beacons, street lighting and resurfacing, will start on the A522 New Road in Tean on Monday.

The work is expected to take two weeks, Staffordshire County Council said, and most of it would be done with a single-lane closure.

However, the authority said the road would need to be fully closed from 9 to 12 June to allow for the resurfacing and road markings to be completed.

A diversion will take drivers along the A522 Uttoxeter Road, A50, A521 Uttoxeter Road and A521 Cheadle Road.

Some sections of footpath would be temporarily shut during the works, the council said, and access to properties and businesses would be maintained where possible.

Councillor Patrick Allen said keeping road users and pedestrians safe was a "key priority" for the council.

"This is an important road safety scheme for the village that includes a new crossing on what is a busy road," he added.
