Callum Beattie and Mika among Belladrum's opening day acts

Callum Beattie and Mika are set to headline the opening day of the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival in the Highlands.

The Human League - who are marking their 45th birthday - are Friday's headliners and James take to the main stage on Saturday night.

The music event, which celebrated its 21st anniversary last year, is expected to bring more than 20,000 people to the Belladrum Estate near Beauly.

Other acts over the weekend include Razorlight, Kula Shaker, Symphonic Ibiza, Scouting for Girls, Brooke Combe and Valtos.

Beattie played Bella in 2022 and 2024 and his latest appearance follows performances at Edinburgh Castle and the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The musician, who grew up in Musselburgh, said it felt "unbelievable" to be headlining Belladrum.

"I feel ready for it. If I'm not ready for it now I'll never be," he said.

Singer-songwriter Mika, who had a hit with 2007's Grace Kelly and is a presenter and judge on TV shows such as Eurovision and The Piano, is also headlining Thursday night.

Synth pop band The Human League have sold more than 20 million records, with Don't You Want Me being one of their biggest hits.

Manchester indie band James, whose hits included Sit Down and Laid in the 1990s and Getting Away With It in 2001, are returning to Bella's main stage for the first time since 2013.

Making her first appearance at Belladrum will be Scottish soul singer-songwriter Brooke Combe.

"I'm absolutely buzzing about it," she told BBC Scotland News.

"I'm really excited to show everyone up there my music because we've not gigged up there before."

Combe's breakthrough album Dancing at the Edge of the World came out last year.

Since then she has performed with American singer-songwriter Benson Boone, appeared on US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live and Later...with Jools Holland in the UK.

The singer from Dalkeith, near Edinburgh, said: "It has had a massive impact not only on my career but the music I am making now. It has made so many opportunities for me."

She added: "The biggest way I have tried to build on the success of the album is gigging it and touring it and trying to show as many people the songs as possible.

"Myself and the band have worked tirelessly to create a live show that is as good as the records."

Four-piece indie rock act Socialites are to play the main stage ahead of Thursday's headliners after winning a talent competition run by BBC Alba and the festival.

Formed in Wick in 2022, Socialites are made up of Iona Fleming on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Kyle Steven on lead guitar, Sean Lewis on bass and Rory MacDougall on drums.

The festival was started in 2004 as a one-day event with tickets for just 2,000 people. It has since grown to cover three days.

Over the years Biffy Clyro, Lewis Capaldi, Bastille, CMAT, Twin Atlantic and Teenage Fanclub have performed there.

Each festival has a theme and this year's is party animals - a fancy dress parade will be held on Saturday.

Six weddings are also due to take place over the weekend.

Festival producer Dougie Brown said: "We've grown over the years, but the festival has always kind of stayed true to that sense of being a family festival."

Retired distiller Trish McCarroll, 61, and retired lorry driver Eddie McCarroll, 72, from Methil, are Bella regulars.

Trish said they were looking forward to seeing Callum Beattie, Dublin act The Scratch and Fife singer Cammy Barnes.

She added: "We've been three times. It's an amazing festival and everybody is so friendly."

Hairdressing student Jessica Foy, 17, from Dornoch, said catching Mika's performance was top her list.

"I really like his music," she said.
