A major motorway link road has been shut after a lorry crashed through a bridge barrier.

Hampshire Police said the crash happened on the M3 southbound carriageway at junction 14 at about 22:00 BST on Tuesday, forcing the closure of the two lanes linking the M3 near Eastleigh to the westbound M27 slip road.

The force said the lorry left the carriageway and came to rest on Chestnut Avenue, which has been shut between Nightingale Avenue and Falkland Road. The BBC has asked police for information on any injuries suffered.

National Highways said recovery work and repairs to the crash barrier on the bridge were under way.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journey or seek alternative routes.
