Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses and information after a man was injured in a shooting in Sheffield.

Armed police responded to reports of a gun being fired on Greasbro Road in the Tinsley area of the city at 22:55 BST on Sunday.

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious injuries, South Yorkshire Police said, where he remains in a stable condition.

Supt Martin Simcock described the incident as "a disgusting attack that could have led to another senseless death", adding the victim and his family "will have been put through hell by this experience".

"We will not tolerate firearms crime in our communities, but we need the help of our communities to stamp it out," he said.

"It is vital that we find the person responsible for this crime and bring them to justice."

Officers had examined "extensive" CCTV footage, the force said, and were working to understand the circumstances of the shooting and identify those responsible.

Additional police patrols in the area will continue over the weekend.
