Thirty people evacuated after flat fire

Thirty people had to be evacuated after a flat fire in a four-storey building.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to Hospital Road, Plymouth, after reports of flames coming from a first floor flat window.

The force sent eight fire engines to the scene, with seven people rescued by fire crews from separate flats.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the incident started just before 00:00 BST on Sunday, and inquiries were ongoing to locate an individual wanted in connection with it.

The flat where the fire started was destroyed in the incident, and the first-floor communal area was slightly damaged.

Two other communal areas were also damaged by smoke, with crews using water jets and breathing apparatus to deal with the incident.

Police said nobody was injured in the fire.
