A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 16-year-old boy who died from stab wounds.

Officers were called to Adnitt Road, in the Abington area of Northampton, shortly after 19:00 BST on Tuesday where they found the victim.

Two men aged 56 and 19, and a woman, 51, all from the town, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Det Ch Insp Ryan Catling said Northamptonshire Police had been "working around the clock" to establish what happened and who was responsible.

The 56-year-old has been released on police bail, pending further inquiries. Northamptonshire Police has been asked for an update on the remaining two suspects.

The name of the teenager who died in the alleged attack has not yet been made public.

Catling said: "This is a complex investigation which has seen us conduct warrants at a number of addresses in Northampton, including in Salcey Street and Thorn Hill Walk, while also speaking to witnesses, interrogating CCTV footage and searching locations of interest."

He confirmed a post-mortem examination found the teenager had "died as a result of a stab wound".

"I understand this is a concerning time for residents, and I want to reassure you that we are doing all we can to find those responsible and bring them to justice."

He said he wanted to hear from anyone who was in the area near Adnitt Road between 18:30 and 19:00 on Tuesday and saw "anyone acting suspiciously".

"Please don't assume someone else has told us what you know, we would rather receive the same information multiple times than not at all."

He also appealed for anyone who was driving in the area who had dashcam footage to get in touch.
