A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a "serious" assault in Leicester city centre.

Officers were called to Horsefair Street at about 05:00 GMT on 30 November after receiving reports a man in his 20s had suffered serious head injuries.

Leicestershire Police said he remained in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A 20-year-old man has since been arrested and is currently in custody.

Det Sgt Adrian Davies, from the force's complex investigation team, said the investigation into what caused the injuries was "ongoing".

"We are working to do all we can to ensure the person or people responsible for this incident are arrested," he said.

"We still want to speak to anyone who was out in Leicester city centre last Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday morning and saw what happened or has any information that can help."
