A council is appealing for information after fly-tippers blocked a road in Leicestershire by dumping a large tree trunk.

Harborough District Council said the fly-tip, in Ullesthorpe Road near Ashby Parva, was a danger to road users.

The authority said the tipped tree trunk, along with household waste, was reported on Tuesday but was likely left there the night before or in the early hours of the morning.

Officials said they were keen to hear from anyone in the area who saw anything suspicious or a vehicle carrying a large tree.

David Page, the council's cabinet lead for neighbourhood services, said: "The dumped material obstructed the highway, creating a danger to road users.

"Fly-tipping, obstructing the highway and creating hazardous conditions for others are serious matters and may amount to criminal offences.

"This was dangerous, deeply disrespectful to residents and exactly the kind of illegal behaviour we will not tolerate.

"Our teams acted quickly to make the area safe and clear the waste. Residents will pay for this clean-up through their council tax, but those responsible should be in no doubt, we intend to make them pay for what they have done."
