Man's death in street 'not the result of a crime'

Police were called to a man in cardiac arrest on Brownlow Street in York

The death of a man in a street in York was not the result of a crime, police said.

Officers were called by the ambulance service to Brownlow Street shortly after 04:00 BST on Friday.

A man in his 50s suffered a cardiac arrest and was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene about 30 minutes later.

A 56-year-old man who was arrested has now been released without charge. North Yorkshire Police said the man's death is "not believed to have resulted from any criminal offences".

A spokesperson said: "We know this tragic incident will have caused upset and concern in the local area.

"Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols there, to offer ongoing reassurance.

"We are grateful to the community for their support and understanding throughout the investigation."
