Child dies in dog attack, police say
GoogleA child has died in a suspected dog attack, police have said.
Armed officers were sent to an address on Hardale Grove, in Dormanstown, Redcar, shortly after 13:30 BST over reports of concern for a child.
When they arrived, the child had died and Cleveland Police said it was believed to have been the result of a dog bite.
The force said one dog had been destroyed on the street and another at the house had been seized.
The BBC has asked police how old the child was and what breed the dogs were.
The North East Ambulance Service sent three crews and said one person was taken to hospital for further treatment.
District commander for Redcar and Cleveland Emily Harrison said officers remained at the address and an investigation was taking place.
"Understandably this is a distressing and tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child's family," Harrison added.
"I would encourage anyone who has concerns or information to please speak to an officer."
