A fire has caused damage to a section of the roof at a GAA club in Ardglass, County Down.

The blaze at Ardglass GAC in Ardtole Road was reported at 14:34 BST on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was believed to be accidental and was caused by rubbish from a fire spreading to some gorse, which in turn spread to the building.

The chairperson of Ardglass GAC, Michael Curran, told BBC News NI the fire had destroyed the "whole back end of the roof" of the clubhouse.

He said nobody was injured and the club had received support from the local community and other GAA clubs.

Four fire engines and an aerial ladder tackled the fire, which was extinguished at 17:43 BST.
