Flats plan for 'derelict' former factory approved
GooglePlans to redevelop a derelict former factory in Ilkeston into flats have been given the go-ahead.
Erewash Borough Council has approved a planning application to convert the Grade II listed former Norton Plastics building in Heanor Road into 23 flats.
According to Historic England, the building was constructed in the 19th century as a lace and hosiery factory, and was previously known as Bailey's Factory.
A report submitted to the council said the site needed "substantial repair" and was in a state of "disrepair", with a broken roof, windows and floor.
"The works will protect and enhance the building's historical significance while introducing a sustainable and viable use that meets contemporary housing demands," the report added.
"By respecting the building's character and ensuring sensitive adaptation, the project will secure its future as a valuable and cherished part of Ilkeston's heritage."
