Substantial trackside fire shuts Stratford station
London Fire BrigadeStratford train and tube station is closed due to a fire in an area beside the tracks.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) said eight fire engines and about 60 firefighters are attending and have asked people to avoid the area.
Station Commander Scott Thorpe, who is at the scene, said the fire is located within an area of grass and shrubbery surrounded on all sides by railway tracks.
In an update at 2045 BST, LFB said there are "multiple seats of fire involving trees, shrubbery and grass near the railway tracks remain alight".
London Fire BrigadeTrain operator Greater Anglia said: "The incident involves a substantial lineside fire adjacent to Stratford station, requiring power to the overhead electric wires to be switched off.
"The incident has resulted in all lines being blocked through Stratford.
"The fire brigade, British Transport Police and Network Rail response teams are on site, but for everyone's safety all lines are blocked and there are no trains running."
Greater Anglia told passengers: "Please do not travel for the remainder of the day."
National Rail said the Elizabeth line is suspended between Whitechapel and Shenfield with cancellations, alterations and delays across their network.
London Overground routes are suspended between Dalston Kingsland and Stratford with delays across the entire Mildmay line.
Disruption is expected until the end of Friday.
The Jubilee line is suspended between West Ham and Stratford due to the fire, and the Dockland Light Railway has no service between Bow Church and Stratford.
TfL said the Central line is still running but trains are not currently stopping at Stratford.
In a statement on X, LFB said: "We're making steady progress to extinguish multiple seats of fire near Stratford station but crews are expected to remain on scene through the evening."
Firefighters assisted the British Transport Police to decant passengers from a number of trains that were stopped near Stratford station.
National Rail is providing updates and travel advice to passengers on its website. Transport for London services are also disrupted.
LFB said it received the first of around 30 calls just before 19:00 BST and crews from Plaistow, Poplar, Ilford, Bethnal Green and surrounding fire stations were sent.
