Rape arrest following manhunt across town
BBCA man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a woman at a house in Northallerton, police have said.
North Yorkshire Police were called to the scene at about 01:15 BST on Thursday and carried out a "high profile search" of the area involving "a significant number of officers," a force spokesperson said.
A 26-year-old man from County Durham was taken into custody on Thursday evening.
Insp Rory Sadler said the investigation was "fast-moving" and there would "continue to be a visible police presence in the area to reassure concerned residents".
He said: "I'd also like to provide some clarity about rumours circulating in the community. A white British man from the Durham area has been arrested in connection with this incident."
It was believed to be an isolated incident, Sadler added.
"I'm aware there is some speculation about links to a separate burglary in the Hambleton area," he said.
"However, I can confirm police are treating these incidents as unrelated."
