Allegations have been made about John de Carteret's conduct, the States said

Guernsey's prison governor John De Carteret has temporarily stepped aside from his role amid allegations into his conduct, the States has announced.

The decision was made in agreement with the Committee for Home Affairs, which oversees the prison service, and the States of Guernsey chief executive Boley Smillie.

Smillie said "matters will be investigated fully and fairly. I will provide an update once the investigation has concluded" and no-one should draw a conclusion from the prison governor's decision.

Deputy governor Tracey Mahy will lead the prison in the meantime, the States said.
