Murder charges have been dropped against four men after a man was killed in Bristol.

Leon Phillips, 47, died on 3 February after being found critically injured in Stapleton Road, Easton, the night before. Five men were charged with murder in connection with his death, but the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has now decided to discontinue action against four of them.

They deemed that there was insufficient evidence to realistically prosecute Yahaye Ali, 20, from Fishponds, Ayoob Mohamed, 18, from St Pauls, Muner Teclu, 20, from Easton, and Fallou Diop, 19, of no fixed address.

Mustafa Ali, 18, from Fishponds, remains charged with Phillips' murder and will face trial later this year.

A spokesperson for the CPS said the organisation had a "duty" to keep cases under review, adding: "Following a further review of this case, we concluded that there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction for four men charged in relation to the death of Leon Phillips."

Avon and Somerset Police Ch Supt Paul Wigginton said: "Our priority upon receiving that update was to inform Mr Phillips' family at the earliest opportunity.

"We continue to provide them with support through our specially-trained family liaison officers."
