Street artists to 'add colour' to skate park

A council has announced a street art competition in the hope of transforming a skate park’s vertical surfaces into canvases.

Witney Town Council, in conjunction with creative collective MES Creations, will be hosting the event and aiming to "add colour" to Leys Skate Park in Witney, Oxfordshire.

The park reopened earlier in the year after a nearly £158,000 upgrade.

The council said specially invited artists would work on the transformation on 5 October.

The brief will focus on colour, inclusivity, youth, environment and Witney, the council said.

The town council said the demonstration would be "a reminder of the importance of supporting and celebrating public art".

It added that the skate park had been "hugely successful, becoming a destination park and attracting both local people and users from surrounding areas".

In future there might be opportunities for local artists and the youth community to regularly refresh some of the art.

The council said the park would be closed for its usual skate and ride activities during the event.

There will be music to entertain visitors and refreshments available from the Coffee Shed, it added.
