Final Splendour festival to be held this year
Splendour festivalOrganisers have confirmed this year's Splendour festival in Nottingham will be its last.
DHP Family, which runs the annual event alongside Nottingham City Council, said the cost of staging events was "rising sharply" at the same time household budgets had come "under pressure".
Held in the grounds of Wollaton Hall and Deer Park since 2008, the festival regularly attracts up to 25,000 people. In 2022, it was expanded into a two-day event.
George Akins, managing director of DHP Family, said: "After a lot of careful thought, we feel the right thing to do is to make this year a proper celebration of everything Splendour has meant to Nottingham and give it the send-off it deserves."
'Very different landscape'
The festival - which will take place this year on 18 and 19 July - is being headlined by The Wombats and Snow Patrol.
The line-up also includes Primal Scream, Craig David Presents TS5, Editors, The K's, The Flaming Lips, Hard Life, The Lathums, Estelle, Cast, Neville Staple from The Specials, Kingfishr, The Futureheads, The Pigeon Detectives and The Sugarhill Gang.
Akins said: "Thanks to everyone for your loyalty and support over the years, we couldn't have done it without you.
"Like many independent festivals, Splendour has had to navigate a very different landscape in recent years, with the cost of staging events rising sharply at the same time as household budgets have come under pressure and the festival market has become much more crowded."
Past line-ups have included acts such as Paolo Nutini, Noel Gallagher, Madness, Pet Shop Boys, Calvin Harris, Rag'n'Bone Man, Scissor Sisters, Blondie, Paloma Faith, Manic Street Preachers, The Specials, Dizzee Rascal, Jess Glynne, Anne-Marie, Becky Hill and The Human League.
Leader of Nottingham City Council, Neghat Khan, said: "We're proud to have helped develop Splendour into a Nottingham institution since its inception in 2008.
"The festival has showcased an incredible breadth of talent - from emerging Nottingham artists who went on to achieve great success, to internationally renowned performers."
