Hollywood Bowls wants to open an 18-lane bowling alley in the space currently occupied by One Beyond

A large discount shop could become an 18-lane bowling alley as part of plans to transform a shopping centre.

Hollywood Bowl wants to open the new venue at The Meadows in Chelmsford, in space currently occupied by One Beyond.

A previous proposal to demolish the shopping centre, replacing it with 762 homes, alongside retail and leisure units, was scrapped last year.

Savills UK Ltd said the plans were now to revitalise the site, rather than add more homes to the city centre.

Matthew Nagle and Kevin Mersh, from Savills, said shoppers could expect to see a range of improvements rolling out across the centre, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The company has appointed property managers Estama to attract new investment to the shopping centre redevelopment.

Ross Campbell, director & head of asset management at Estama, said: "We know how much The Meadows means to the people of Chelmsford.

"We're looking forward to working closely with the centre's landlords to bring a mix of new stores to both the centre and the city."
