A woman in her 40s was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital with serious injuries

A man has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs after two women were seriously injured in crash, with one airlifted to hospital.

Emergency services were called to an incident involving three vehicles on Frogmore Road in Market Drayton at about 07:30 BST on Monday, West Mercia Police said.

Two cars, an Audi TT and a Fiat Panda crashed and the drivers of the vehicles, two women in their 40s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries, the force added.

The 44 year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Both drivers were transported to the Major Trauma Centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital.

People were asked to avoid the area on Monday as Frogmore Road was closed in both directions for several hours between Cheshire Street and the Frogmore Road car park.

West Mercia Police appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam footage of the moments before the incident to contact the force.
