Weekly round-up: Five stories you may have missed
BBC/Russell SheathA new dinosaur species, a ferry farewell and a precarious police car all feature among the most-popular stories in the south of England this week.
In case you missed them, we have picked five articles from the past seven days across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Berkshire and Oxfordshire to keep you up to date.
Cross-Channel ferry sets sail for final time
A cross-Channel ferry that has sailed from the Dorset coast for more than 30 years made its final journey on its route to France.
Brittany Ferries' Barfleur departed from Poole, bound for Cherbourg in Normandy, shortly after 08:30 BST on Monday.
Dozens of people braved the wet weather to watch the ferry cross Poole Harbour and pass Sandbanks, heading for the English Channel.
Brittany Ferries announced earlier this year it would sell Barfleur and end the route, which it said had seen passenger numbers fall by 70% since 2002.
Island fossil identified as new dinosaur species
Sergey Krasovskiy and Pedro SalasA new species of dinosaur - a long-clawed predator the size of a large tiger - has been identified from a fossil found on the Isle of Wight more than 100 years ago.
The dinosaur, named Invictibellatrix amberina, was described in a new paper in the journal Royal Society Open Science and belongs to a group of agile, two-legged carnivores called megaraptorans.
They were closely related to tyrannosaurs including Tyrannosaurus rex but had slender heads and attacked prey with their large arms and giant curved claws instead of their jaws.
Dr Cassius Morrison of University College London (UCL) said it was a "real mystery" why the fossil - a chunk of the back of a skull - had been overlooked in the Natural History Museum.
Police car removed after pier crash
BBC/Russell SheathA police car had to be recovered after ploughing through the railings of a pier on the Isle of Wight.
The Hampshire police car went into the railings on Ryde Pier shortly before 10:10 BST on Tuesday and was wedged in place.
The force said the car crashed with another vehicle while responding to an incident and that no one had been injured. The fire service said two people who were trapped in the car were rescued by firefighters.
Some Wightlink ferry services were delayed or cancelled on the day before the pier reopened at 16:15.
Mum in 'survival mode' after three hours stuck in car park
Emily ScottA mum has described going into "survival mode" after being "stranded" in the multi-storey car park of a shopping centre as traffic gridlock took hold of Oxford.
Emily Scott was stuck in the Westgate car park for about three hours alongside her partner and their two children, the youngest of which is 10 months old.
Shoppers and drivers complained of gridlock across the city centre during the weekend following the introduction of a new traffic filter trial and the Oxford Half Marathon.
Oxfordshire County Council said its trial was still in the early days and that it was monitoring the scheme's impact carefully.
Artist wins tattoo show award with mystery design
Would you blindly get a tattoo without seeing the design first?
That is what Bibek Raut did at the Big London Tattoo Show, a prestigious industry event.
Raut did not see the body art until the day and his trust paid off as the thigh tattoo won Best of Friday, an award that is given to the best tattoo completed live at the show.
He said he agreed to take part in the competition because he had "full faith" in tattoo artist Abhishek Shakya who works at Reading Mystic Tattoo Lounge.
