Two people were injured when a car crashed into a GP practice, damaging the wall of the building where the dispensary is situated.

Cumbria Police were called to Shap Medical Practice, in Penrith, on Friday at about 11:30 BST.

The driver, a 39-year-old woman from the area, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, officers said.

The NHS North East and North Cumbria ICB said the building was being made secure and the practice would contact patients directly if their appointments were affected.

Two people, who were inside the medical practice at the time of the crash, suffered minor injuries and were checked over by paramedics at the scene, police said.

An ICB spokesperson said it had been in contact with the practice staff about their continuity plans and a structural engineer was due to assess the building.
