Man, 25, died at Royal Welsh showground after suspected drug overdose

A man who was found dead at Wales' biggest annual agricultural festival died from a suspected drug overdose, an inquest opening has heard.

Dewi Aeron Evans, 25, from Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr in Conwy county was found at the Royal Welsh showground in Builth Wells on 18 July, with a police investigation suggesting his death was "linked to substance misuse".

Three men were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences, and later released on bail.

At Pontypridd Coroner's Court on Friday, area coroner Patricia Morgan adjourned the inquest for the police investigation to continue and further medical tests to be carried out.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, with pathologist Dr Kondratowicz giving a provisional cause of death as "consistent with drug overdose, pending toxicology".

Morgan expressed her "deepest condolences to Evans' family and friends at this sad time", and said a full inquest would take place at a later date to be confirmed.

The inquest heard Evans died at the the Royal Welsh showground. Dyfed-Powys Police had previously said Evans died after paramedics were called to Penmaenau Farm campsite at Llanelwedd in Powys - near the showground.

Paying tribute, Evans' family said he was a "beloved and dear son, brother and grandson" who would be "a huge loss to the family and community in Uwchaled".
