More cliff falls are expected after a landslip in Devon sent tonnes of debris into the sea.

The collapse from the Ness headland at Shaldon in March was captured on camera, which showed red sandstone, trees, and other material falling onto the beach below.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Teignbridge District Council fenced off part of the headland for public safety, with a section of the South West Coast Path affected.

A coastal officer warned the cliffs were unstable and further falls in the area were likely.

Coastal officer Greame Smith said the cliffs were made up of 280-million-year-old soft sandstone which was prone to erosion and had a natural tendency to erode and collapse over time.

He said work was under way to remove a tree left "teetering on the edge" of a cliff following the landslip.

Local councillors have backed a long-term plan for managing beaches in Teignmouth in response to ongoing erosion.

Councillor Jackie Hook said: "If we do nothing, the beaches will continue to get lower and narrower, particularly at the southern end of Teignmouth seafront.

"The flooding and erosion risk will increase as the beaches lose their ability to act as a natural buffer against waves and storms.

"Public access, recreation and tourism may decline in some sections of the beach."
