Manslaughter arrest after man's 'unexplained' death
PA MediaA woman has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after the "unexplained" death of a man whose body was found at a home, along with several dead dogs.
The man, aged in his 70s, was found after police were called to an address on Coachmans Drive in West Derby, Liverpool, at about 18:10 BST on Friday.
Merseyside Police said the death was being treated as unexplained and an investigation was continuing.
A 55-year-old woman from West Derby has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, ill-treatment or wilful neglect of a person by a care worker and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
When emergency services attended the address, a number of dogs were also found inside the home, some of which had died, the force continued.
Officers are trying to contact the man's next of kin and have appealed for anyone who may know him to get in touch.
A post-mortem has been carried out and toxicology tests were ongoing, the force said.
Acting Det Ch Supt Helen Bennett said: "Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the man who has sadly passed way.
"As this matter is clearly in the very early stages, we would ask people to avoid speculating and allow us to carry out our enquiries.
"Although we have arrested a person in connection with the investigation, we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward."
The RSPCA were carrying out their own inquiries, police said.
